CONDEMNED OPERA
11/19/2005
Bergamot Station Track 16
Los Angeles, CA
This installation was about combining two most contrasting elements: a utility elevator and ballet. First, Trenda designed a light box with an image of elevator knobs. Then created three video projections each displaying an elevator going up and down. They were projected onto a nine-foot plexi glass box. The performance included a children’s toy that expanded and contracted. Inside the toy were two small cameras that connected to two monitors on the outside of the plexi box. In retrospect, we are in a constant state of flux of many contrasting elements in the digital environment of today’s technological world. Trenda won the prize of The Artist of the Year at the London Creative Awards in 2008 for this performance.
